Hi! I’m Ashlyn Lon, a graphic designer, illustrator, and aspiring children’s book author from Des Moines, Iowa. My journey into art and creativity began before I can even remember. Since childhood I have been inspired and captivated by creating art, music, and writing stories.
After high school, I spent a few years working jobs that payed the bills, but left me feeling empty and craving more for my life. I had a natural ability and desire to create through painting, drawing, playing guitar and piano, writing stories and poetry, but it felt like all my talents were going to waste. I had no time outside of work to do the things I loved- my heart was breaking. Eventually I decided enough was enough and I made the decision to quit my soul sucking office job and begin working as a preschool teacher. That leap changed my life. For nearly five years now, I’ve worked in early childhood education and have developed a passion for using art to facilitate education, and to ignite a child’s natural ability to fall in love with learning as a foundation of lifelong success.
At DMACC, I’ve had the chance to explore a wide variety of design skills—branding, illustration, packaging, typography, motion design, and more. Each project has helped me grow as a creative thinker and problem solver. I’m open to working on any kind of project to keep learning and gaining experience, but my heart is especially drawn to work that empowers children and celebrates the art of storytelling. My dream is to write and illustrate children’s books that share the magic of art and literature with young minds across the country.
